New Law in Spain: No ITV = No Insurance Renewal

Effective immediately, a recent law published in the BOE on July 25, 2025, introduces important changes for vehicle owners in Spain:

Insurers now must verify that your vehicle has a valid ITV (Spanish MOT) before renewing your insurance.

• If your ITV has expired, your insurer cannot renew your standard policy.
• They may offer temporary or limited coverage, but it won’t provide full protection.
• Keep your ITV up to date to stay fully insured and legal on the road!

🚲 High-powered electric bikes (those capable of moving without pedalling) now require liability insurance.
🛠️ Improved support for accident victims, (those seriously injured in accidents)  including home rehab and psychological help for families affected by serious injuries or loss.
💸 Faster claims process and annual updates of indemnities with inflation adjustments.

📅 The law is already in effect.

• Ensure your ITV is valid before your insurance renewal.
• Book your ITV test early if it’s close to expiring.
• Driving without valid ITV or insurance can lead to fines, vehicle impoundment, and liability issues.
